Last year during the peak of the pandemic, our Port Coogee employees wanted to further support our residents to maintain community connections. One of the ways our team did this was by reaching out to Perth Zoo to become members – this provided an opportunity for virtual experiences of the animals in their environment. Our residents enjoyed this with such delight and they even adopted a number of animals from the zoo. As part of the adoption process, this gave the residents the opportunity to visit the zoo once it was open again.
We recently took 20 residents to the zoo where they were able to admire the elephants, gaze at the giraffes, and interact with the meerkats. A couple of residents even explored the nocturnal house where they spied bilbies, possums and snakes.
Ruth shared with us that it was the “best day I have had in a long time, I even sat on a tortoise.”
And Pat and Barry told us “I haven’t been to the zoo in over 20 years, the day bought back some wonderful memories, thank you.”
