Meet Jocelyn, Lifestyle Coordinator at Regis Fawkner who has been with Regis since September 2015. Over the last seven years, Jocelyn has undertaken a variety of roles throughout many different Homes in Victoria, across Reception work and various positions within the Lifestyle teams.

Working within the aged care sector was appealing to Jocelyn because she finds working with the older members of the community “really rewarding and fun.” She adored her own grandparents and “always treats each resident with the same care and respect” she would her own family.

“I love the fun and challenge of creating meaningful, purposeful and enjoyable activities.”

Jocelyn’s day begins with a walk around the Home to greet the residents, check the activity calendar is up-to-date and organize the day’s activities. Her day is never the same as the one before, keeping her on her toes. She runs a variety of activities, as well as doing a lot of preparation in the background to ensure everything always runs smoothly and the Lifestyle team are all organised. “It’s a busy role, but I love it!”

What Jocelyn enjoys most about her work is “bringing meaning and purpose, as well as connections, to families and the community.”

“We have a lot of fun with Lifestyle and get to see happiness and joy in our residents,” says Jocelyn. The team at Regis Fawkner is also a huge factor in making her work all the more enjoyable.

Working with the elderly brings Joceyln immense joy, because she “loves hearing about our resident’s fascinating lives.”

“I get a lot of love and affection back from the residents and that makes my day, every day!”

For anyone considering a career in aged care, Jocelyn shares it is imperative to “be prepared to work hard, but give a little of yourself and you will receive much in return.”

Outside of work, Jocelyn loves singing in her gospel choir, going to see live music and reading avidly. She also cherishes spending quality time with her nieces and nephews. Jocelyn feels home means being comfortable and that “home is where the heart is.”
