In a heartwarming display of compassion and dedication, Regis Sandgate Lucinda and the team at Silver Memories recently made a resident’s dream come true.
Regis Sandgate Lucinda resident Graeme Hartas, fondly known as Grey Grey, experienced an unforgettable day at the Silver Memories Broadcasting Studio.
Graeme was granted the opportunity to spend a morning with Ronnie Park, a volunteer and the charismatic frontman of the Silver Memories Roadshow. Ronnie and Graeme had formed a deep connection due to their shared passion for radio presenting and music from the 1960s.
On the day, Graeme demonstrated his enduring talent as a seasoned radio announcer, taking over the mic to send birthday shout-outs and messages to all residents and employees at Regis Sandgate Lucinda.
Reflecting on the experience, Graeme shared: “It felt terrrrrrifffiic! I love being back behind the mic and being able to reach out to so many people.”
“I loved the fact that I could give a shout-out to all my friends at Regis Sandgate Lucinda,” said Graeme.

Born in 1951 in Sydney, Graeme developed an unwavering love for radio, prompting him to pursue a two-year course to refine his craft. He went on to work as a panel operator at various renowned radio stations, including 2UE Sydney, 2BE Bega, 2MG Mudgee, 2DC Dubbo, and 4VL Charleville. Notably, Graeme’s charismatic presence at Grace Brothers stores in Sydney earned him recognition during that time.
Graeme’s journey eventually led him to the United Kingdom, where he secured a position at the renowned pirate radio station, Radio Caroline. With a listenership of over 3 million across Britain and Europe, Radio Caroline became legendary, even inspiring the creation of the film “The Boat That Rocked.” Graeme’s contributions to the station earned him a well-deserved place in the Pirate Radio Hall of Fame.
The morning spent at the Silver Memories Broadcasting Studio was a delightful immersion into Graeme’s cherished memories.
“Ronald and I visit Graeme occasionally just for a quick coffee and a chat. I often take in old radios from work dating back to the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. He remembers all the old brands and loves to reminisce about his radio days,” said Mark Smith, Business Development Manager at Silver Memories.
