Regis The Gap were recently featured in an ABC News broadcast for their wonderful art therapy classes.

The art therapy classes, which have been a regular fixture in the Home for the past few years, are a source of joy and an outlet for residents to relax and express themselves.

Each resident chooses to paint what inspires them. If they’re unable to paint with a brush, they use a cloth or their hands and fingers. Some residents also dictate to their carers their desired brush movements.

Speaking about the classes, 96-year-old Regis The Gap resident Joan Driscoll said, “Relaxation, you just forget about what else is going on in the world. It’s very good for you.”

“We’re using source images that I’ve printed out and every resident chooses what inspires them,” said Art Teacher and Therapist Ali Gillett of Brave Arts.

The entire team at Regis The Gap are thrilled with the pieces that the class have put together and have gone as far as to turn the foyer in the Home into a dedicated art gallery, with residents’ works rotated every three months.

The art therapy classes are just one of the ways that we are providing individualised and personalised care to ensure that every resident can continue to live a full and rich life.
