This International Nurses Day we’re spotlighting some of the nurses at Regis that make invaluable contributions towards the care and wellbeing of our residents.

Regis Tiwi’s Clinical Care Manager, Alkyne Grace Chua, has been at Regis since February 2022 when they commenced as a Registered Nurse.

Speaking of what attracted them to aged care, Alkyne said, “I love looking after elderly people. I found my passion and happiness by providing for their needs and making them smile a million times.”

“My daily interactions with them creates a bond and a feeling of fulfilment. This gives me the courage to do great work every day and care for these lovely people, knowing that I will make a difference in their lives.”

When it comes to what Alkyne enjoys most about working at Regis, it’s the effective teamwork, support, diversity and inclusivity.

“Regis promotes encouragement to grow, work satisfaction and continuous support from the team. Every employee listens and treats you with respect. We share common goals and build good relationships with residents and colleagues.”

Alkyne is involved with not just residents and colleagues, but families and representatives also. This relationship requires regular communication and transparency about the care needs of their loved ones.

“I regularly contact families by phone, email or speak to them in person and encourage them to participate and discuss the care planning process to develop strategies and a meaningful and comprehensive care plan.”

Providing individualised care is vital for residents and clients as no two sets of requirements are the same. This involves being adaptable in caregiving to accommodate the unique and dynamic needs of residents, clients and their families.

Alkyne said, “The resident is to retain their independence as much as they can to allow them to maintain their sense of dignity and motivation. Also, giving them a hand, listening to them and assisting them do the activities that they cannot do on their own gives them reassurance and a feeling of belonging. It helps them to adjust smoothly with their changing needs.”

Speaking of the care provided at Regis, Alkyne said, “Regis provides a holistic care approach to each resident. We consider individual needs based on their choices and preferences. Each person’s needs are tailored to them.”

Thank you to all the nurses who prioritise our residents and families.
