In the lead up to this weekend’s AFL Grand Final, we brought together aged care residents from 14 of our Metro Melbourne Homes, Retirement Living and Home Care clients for a luncheon at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Residents donned footy colours and reminisced and shared their love and passion for the game.
The luncheon featured a talk by Melbourne Football Club Life Member and 1980s player, Kelly O’Donnell. His stories and insights brought back many cherished memories for our residents.
Kelly spoke about the important role football plays in bringing together generations and connecting community. He also reflected on his career highlights from player to coach and now in recruitment.
Peter Schofield (above), former Richmond, Melbourne and North Melbourne player and resident at Regis Sandringham on looking out on the MCG’s hallowed ground shared stories with his table about his playing days in the 1950s. On surveying the ground he said, “It’s different now. It’s covered in grandstands. We used to have a few gaps, and we used to get more people in as we had standing room. You know we’d get over 100,000 for finals.”
Regis is pleased to be able to offer such enriching experiences that make a difference in the lives of our residents, so they can live life to the fullest. Our unique lifestyle program is tailored to residents’ interests, providing opportunities for them to get involved, create friendships, and strengthens our Regis community.
