Nicola Watt’s journey at Regis is a testament to the career progression available within aged care. Starting as a student on placement, she was soon offered a role as an Assistant in Nursing—a position she held for 3.5 years. Her dedication and hard work then led her to a cover role as Office Manager at Regis Sippy Downs, which later became a permanent position.
When asked to step in as Acting General Manager at Regis Sippy Downs, Nicola embraced the challenge and reflected on how far she had come.
“I got into aged care to care for people, and now I’m managing a Home—how did this happen!?” she shares.
Seeking greater flexibility, Nicola transitioned into Recruitment, where she could balance work with her personal life. In May 2023, she returned to operations, stepping into her current role as General Manager at Regis Maroochydore—bringing her journey full circle.
Reflecting on her experience, she said, “It’s surreal to be back managing the Home where I first started as a student.”
Nicola’s passion for her work is fueled by the residents, whose stories and relationships bring her joy and motivation. Over her 10 years at Regis, she has worked at all three Sunshine Coast Homes, as well as Tiwi (Darwin) and Redlynch (Cairns), which have all contributed to her leadership skills.
Supported by the Studies Assistance Program, Nicola completed a Diploma in Leadership and Human Resources Management. She was also a finalist for Outstanding Leadership in the Regis Care Awards 2024, feeling valued and appreciated by the nominations from fellow employees, residents and families.
Her advice to others is simple: embrace every opportunity, continuously learn and develop with every chance you get.
“Make yourself approachable and known to different people within your team and the company. Let your manager know you want to grow and learn more,” she advises.
