Donna Broadbent has been a valuable member of the Regis Sippy Downs team since August 2022. Starting as a Receptionist, Donna’s role quickly expanded to include being the Admissions Coordinator and conducting tours for prospective residents and their families. Her dedication and passion for aged care have made her an integral part of the team.
Donna’s journey in aged care began with a personal experience of caring for her mother and other family members and friends. She realised the importance of providing compassionate care to the elderly and decided to pursue a career in this field. Donna finds purpose in making a positive difference in the lives of the residents and their families, knowing that her work contributes to their overall quality of life.
A typical day for Donna is never the same, as she manages a wide range of responsibilities. From ensuring the reception area is clean and organised, preparing and updating bed registers, answering a busy switchboard, and providing administrative support to the team, Donna’s role requires multitasking and prioritisation. However, she finds joy in being greeted by the residents every morning and appreciates the sense of extended family among her team at Regis Sippy Downs.
Donna’s love for working with the elderly stems from being a caring and positive light in their lives. She enjoys listening to their life stories, sharing laughter with them, and providing comfort on their “sad days” with hugs. Donna lives by her life motto of treating others with courtesy and helpfulness, just as she would like to be treated. She says she aims to be a “caring and positive light in someone’s life.”
In addition to her work at Regis Sippy Downs, Donna enjoys spending time in nature, taking walks with her dog, gardening, cooking, practicing yoga, and cherishing moments with her family and friends. Her ‘Happy Place’ is the beach, where she finds solace and peace.
Donna’s advice to those seeking a career in aged care is to have a caring nature, be kind, patient, and a good listener. She believes that there is nothing more rewarding than making a positive difference in someone’s life and being met with a grateful smile.
With her unwavering commitment, Donna exemplifies the values of Regis and the importance of providing exceptional care to the elderly. She is a shining example of why working in aged care is not only fulfilling but also an attractive career choice. With her kind and compassionate demeanour, Donna continues to make a positive impact on the lives of the residents at Regis Sippy Downs, and she is truly an asset to the aged care profession.
