For Jan, working in aged care has never just been a job—it’s been a calling. Since beginning her journey at the Home in 2016 as an Assistant in Nursing, Jan has steadily grown her career with compassion and a deep commitment to making a real difference in the lives of those around her.
What began as a part-time role while studying soon evolved into something much more meaningful.
“Balancing work and studies was challenging, but also incredibly rewarding,” Jan reflects.
“From day one, I developed hands-on skills in resident care, medication assistance and supporting daily needs. But what really shaped me were the relationships—with residents, families and colleagues. That connection is what made me fall in love with aged care.”
Jan’s passion for aged care is grounded in empathy and a sense of purpose that continues to drive her every day.
“Every resident has a story, and being part of their journey—offering comfort, dignity and companionship—is one of the most meaningful parts of my work. Even the smallest acts can have a huge impact. Whether it’s helping maintain someone’s independence or sharing a simple laugh, those moments remind me why I love what I do.”
Over the years, Jan’s career has evolved significantly. After qualifying as a Registered Nurse, she embraced roles that challenged her to grow—from ACFI RN to Acting Clinical Manager and now Clinical Care Manager at Regis Magnolia.
“Each step has built on the last,” she says. “Being given the chance to step in as Acting Clinical Manager during a colleague’s maternity leave was a turning point. It pushed me to trust my skills and make decisions in real time. That experience gave me the confidence to lead, and ultimately shaped the direction of my career.”
“Magnolia, and Regis more broadly, have supported me every step of the way. Through structured training, leadership development and incredible mentorship from senior leaders, I’ve felt consistently encouraged to grow.”
For those considering a career in aged care, Jan offers heartfelt encouragement:
“Stay curious. Stay committed. Aged care is rewarding in ways you can’t always describe—but you feel it every day. Embrace learning, seek out mentorship, and don’t be afraid of challenges. Some of my greatest growth came when I stepped into the unknown. You’ll be surprised what you’re capable of.”
Jan’s journey is a powerful reminder that at Regis, real impact does feel good—especially when you’re supported to grow, motivated by purpose and proud of the difference you make each day.
