Meet Sam Waldron, the newly appointed General Manager at Regis Nedlands. At the end of 2021, Sam relocated from Melbourne to Perth for his new role, which was motivated by his experiences working in homes impacted by COVID-19. Determined to make a difference, Sam felt this was a “fantastic opportunity… in line with my career progression, desire for challenge and passion for driving positive change across a broader community.”
Although new in his current role, Sam’s career at Regis began in 2010, working within Workplace Health and Safety, Finance and Operations departments. Sam was attracted to working within the aged care sector for “the opportunity to make the world of difference and positively impact the lives of residents within our community.” He finds working with older people “immensely rewarding” and values “the opportunity to care and support truly inspiring members of our community.” Sam appreciates all the connections he has formed with residents during his time with Regis, emphasising his “privilege to be in their company, gaining pearls of wisdom, building friendships, sharing laughter and learning of their truly remarkable histories.”
A typical day for Sam begins with engaging with the wonderful residents and team at Regis Nedlands, followed by meetings with the management team to plan the next days, weeks, and months ahead. Sam feels fortunate to work and lead teams that are passionate about caring for our residents, especially during the challenge of COVID-19. Sam stated he’s been in awe of the support to assist our residents and employees through these unprecedented times.
When asked what advice he’d give to those wanting a career in aged care, Sam enthusiastically replied “don’t hold off and go for it! I truly recommend it and it’s an industry I am proud to be a part of.”
Outside of work, Sam is settling in and enjoying acting like a tourist with his family in their new home city, seeing all that Perth has to offer.
