Aged Care Employee Day this week is a special opportunity for us to highlight the incredible workers who support our residents to live their lives on their terms.
Meet Senisa, a Lifestyle Assistant at Regis Blackburn, who joined the aged care industry in June 2021. Senisa’s passion for working with the elderly comes from her deep respect for their life experience and the opportunity to learn from them.
As a Lifestyle Assistant, Senisa’s primary goal is to “bring joy and happiness to all the residents.” Her days are full of a range of activities that cater to the different interests and passions of the residents. According to Senisa, “every day is a little different, but the main goal is to make the residents smile and ensure they have a good day.” By sharing her talents and passions with the residents, Senisa helps them to maintain their independence and quality of life.
One of the things that Senisa loves about her role is “the sense of community within her team.” Her team takes a collaborative approach to care, leveraging their unique strengths and perspectives to provide the best possible care for their residents. Senisa says she “finds it rewarding to build meaningful relationships with residents and to see the positive impact on their lives.”
When asked what advice she would give to those considering a career in aged care, Senisa emphasized the importance of approaching the role with compassion, empathy, and patience. She says, “each resident has unique needs and preferences, and it is crucial to tailor care accordingly.” Additionally, Senisa highlights the importance of being a good listener and communicating effectively with residents and their families. She recommends seeking out opportunities for ongoing education and training to stay up to date with the latest best practices in aged care.
Senisa’s passion for working with the elderly shines through in her daily responsibilities and her advice for those looking to pursue a career in aged care. Her collaborative approach to care, and the focus she has on building meaningful relationships with residents, makes her an invaluable member of the Regis team.
