We have all seen the impacts of the severe weather, including former Cyclone Alfred, that recently impacted Queensland and Northern New South Wales. Despite the challenges, the strength and resilience of the Regis community shone through, showcasing our exceptional emergency planning capabilities and the unwavering dedication of our employees and support teams.
Regis Managing Director and CEO said, “Our employees have shown extraordinary dedication and resilience in the face of severe weather challenges. Their tireless efforts and selfless commitment to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our residents and clients, and each other, are truly commendable. We are incredibly grateful for their unwavering support and the exceptional care they provided during this event.”
Employees at the impacted Regis Homes worked tirelessly to prepare. They moved furniture, secured windows, ordered additional supplies, relocated residents to less exposed parts of the Homes, and rostered additional shifts to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the Regis community. Provisions and supplies were put in place to allow the Homes to care for our residents for an extended period, even in the event of supply disruptions.
Regis Sandgate Lucinda resident, Catherine Gear, said, “During the preparation and lead up to Cyclone Alfred, I felt informed and safe. This was due to the fact that management and employees kept me up to date with what was happening. They were confident when speaking to residents and provided us with reassurance that it was under control. The employees during this time were always positive, did not complain, and always had a smile on their face. When the fire alarm went off and we lost power, I was in bed and didn’t panic as I knew we were in good hands and there was a plan.”
General Manager of Regis Sandgate Lucinda, Tunde Bulman, said, “When the times get tough, Queenslanders get going. This is true of the wonderful team at Regis Sandgate Lucinda, the rest of the Sandgate campus, and all other Regis Homes affected by ex-tropical Cyclone Alfred. The team at Regis Sandgate Lucinda pulled together to ensure that our residents received care and attention throughout this weather event.”
Our Crisis Management Team met daily to provide ongoing support for operations teams, ensuring that every aspect of our response was coordinated and effective. Employees extended their rosters and even made the decision to sleep at the Homes to support our residents, often while their own homes were under threat. Families were updated every day, ensuring that they were informed and reassured about the safety of their loved ones. Our support teams worked to protect our properties, ensure power supply, resolve IT issues, ensure everyone was paid correctly and many other important activities. The incredible efforts of our employees and support teams exemplify the strength and resilience of the Regis community.
The Regis community has shown that our emergency planning and the dedication of our employees enable us to provide excellent care and support for our residents, no matter the challenge!
