In September 2024, the Lifestyle Knitting Group Program at the Regis Dandenong North community centre embarked on a heartwarming project: creating a poppy flower wreath for ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day Services. This initiative aimed to bring residents together through a shared activity that honoured the memory of those who served and sacrificed.
Resident Tehea, known for her creativity and passion for crochet, came up with the brilliant idea of making poppy flowers out of wool. With the support of the Lifestyle team, she found a helpful tutorial on YouTube that guided her through the process.
Tehea took the lead in this project, teaching her fellow residents how to crochet the poppy flowers. The Lifestyle team provided the necessary materials, including wool, and offered continuous support throughout the project.
Over the course of three months, Tehea dedicated herself to crocheting an incredible 100 poppies. Her dedication and skill were evident in each flower she created, and her enthusiasm was contagious.
As ANZAC Day approaches, Tehea is eagerly looking forward to laying the wreath at the service, which will be the culmination of months of hard work and dedication by not just Tehea, but also her fellow residents and the Lifestyle team.
Tehea’s story exemplifies Regis’ dedication to ensuring our residents continue to follow their passions and are supported along the way.
