Last week, more than 120 residents from our Western Australian Homes gathered at the heritage-listed Fremantle Town Hall to dress up for a ball and dance down memory lane.

The event featured an array of activities designed to evoke nostalgia from events residents have attended in the past, including live music, dance performances, vintage cars, 1920-1950’s inspired lunch and dessert menu, all set within the historic backdrop of the Fremantle Town Hall.

The Regis Inter-Home Community Event initiative has been running since mid-2023 and was designed to support residents and clients to continue to live interesting, connected and fulfilled lives where they can continue to gain new experiences and engage with each other.

With the success of previous Regis’ events, which included an Inter-Home Olympics event hosted by Regis North Fremantle and a Big Day Out earlier this year for residents across Regis Perth Homes, the residents were eagerly anticipating the opportunity to reminisce and create new memories, whilst also forging new and meaningful connections with other residents.

Helen, a Regis resident, says she and her husband Dennis have been dancing since 1965 and had an absolute ball at the Twirling Down Memory Lane event.

“Dennis doesn’t speak so well, but when music comes on, he’ll sing along and remember all the words to the songs – it’s absolutely amazing.”

“I’m so glad we got to reignite some of our fond memories whilst having a blast singing and dancing,” Helen said.

Michelle Martella, Executive General Manager Support Services said the Inter-Home Community Events have been well received by Regis residents and believes by engaging and empowering them to be actively involved in choosing the activities, Regis is fostering a sense of community and personalised care.

“We value input from our community and cherish the diverse perspectives our residents bring through their varied backgrounds, ages, and personalities. By incorporating their suggestions for trips and activities, we ensure their preferences are not only heard, but are transformed into memorable experiences,” Ms. Martella said.

The Twirling Down Memory Lane event was one of many Inter-Home Community Events held nationally this year, further enriching residents’ lives and creating lifelong memories.
