One of Inala Village Retirement Living residents, Roy, turned 99 recently! Roy enjoys his independence in his unit and can be seen striding the streets of Blackburn South each day. Roy was born in Adelaide and is one of five children. He left school when he was fourteen and took whatever work was available at the time. He married his wife, Iris, when he was twenty and they had two daughters. He’s now the proud grandfather to many grandchildren. Roy served in the Air Force for five years during the war and enjoyed a very long career with PMG (now Telstra).
Roy’s secret to his long life: ‘Keep away from alcohol and cigarettes, keep your heart in good condition and keep breathing!’
Roy’s advice to future generations: ‘Don’t worry about the past, it is gone, always look forward stronger’
With restrictions now easing in Melbourne, Roy is looking forward to a restaurant lunch with his family to celebrate his milestone birthday! Happy 99th Birthday Roy!
